• The CEE-M is organizing a conference entitled “Agir autrement” (Acting differently) to facilitate the transition of coastal areas: cross-fertilization between managers and researchers, in conjunction with the University of Montpellier, the CNFPT, the Fondation de France, the Plan Littoral 21 and the GIP Littoral 2030

The aim of this conference is to share scientific and territorial experiences on the spatial recomposition of coastal territories, and to develop public action tools to define long-term transition trajectories that involve flexible and progressive planning to better anticipate future bifurcations.

It will be held at the Economic Faculty of Montpellier on March 25 and 26, 2025, and will be built around 6 sessions:

• Session 1: Why “act differently”? What's at stake
• Session 2: What are the conditions for “acting differently”?
• Session 3: What are the levers for change? Feedback from field experience and research projects
• Session 4: “Acting differently” with dynamic planning: building adaptation trajectories for coastal areas
• Session 5: How can we get the public on board?
• Session 6: What roadmap for acting differently?

The journal Annnals of Economics and Statistics has just published a special Issue coordinated by Francesco Ricci, a member of the CEE-M, which brings together a selection of eight articles

This issue gathers a selection of eight contributed papers presented at the 10th annual congress of the French Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (FAERE), held in Montpellier in September 2023.

These articles provide an opportunity both to celebrate a decade of FAERE’s achievements and to look ahead to the future challenges and directions in environmental and resource economics.

The first IRN (International Research Network) QARESS Symposium has been held in Montpellier on December 2-3, 2024. It has been hosted by the MSHSUD in downtown Montpellier and mainly organized by the CEE-M (Center of Environmental Economics in Montpellier) with the financial support of both the CNRS and INRAE. The IRN QARESS Symposium #2024 brought together scientists from various countries (Germany, The Netherlands, Cameroon, Canada, Australia and France) and various disciplines (Economics, Ecology, Decision Sciences, Modeling) interested in the `QuAntitative Resilience-based managEment and Sustainability for Social-ecological Systems' (QARESS). This international and interdisciplinary Symposium QARESS has been the opportunity to:

1. Reinforce the common knowledge and ideas within this new International Research Network (IRN) funded by CNRS over five years,
2. Draft international and interdisciplinary scientific papers and/or proposals to upcoming international calls (Belmont Forum, H2020, OECD, ...),
3. Expand the QARESS interdisciplinary network about resilience-based management at the Montpellier scale.

• "In Tanzania, marine protected areas benefit to local economy"new article by Antoine Leblois, Julia Girard and Sébastien Desbureaux published by The Conversation.

Multi-purpose marine protected areas (MPAs), which aim to reconcile local economic activity and biodiversity, have received little research attention. In Tanzania, research has shown that the standard of living of the inhabitants of villages located near or within MPAs has doubled compared with those further away.
